Women have always been regarded as the weaker class. This is what society taught us. This is one of the reasons why women tend to depend on men because of this societal pressure. Nevertheless, there are women who have proven to the world that women are equally important. They defied the belief that women should not be under the authority of men.
There are outstanding women like Susan B. Anthony, a well-known women’s rights activist in history, she is an American social campaigner who played a crucial role in the women’s suffrage movement. In 1856, she became the New York state agent for the American Anti-Slavery Society. She fought for the right of women to vote.
A contemporary icon who withstood the challenge of equality of women and men towards education is Malala Yousafzai, a Pakistani youngster who resisted coercions of the Taliban to campaign for the right to education. She survived being shot in the head by the Taliban and has become a global campaigner for women’s rights and the right to education.
On this Women’s Day, in an interview of Dr. Nirmala Kajaria, the current directress of Brahma Kumaris Gyan Sarovar (Academy of a Better World), she shared insightful message for women. Brahma Kumaris is a non-sectarian spiritual organization managed mostly by women. Although primarily administered by women, it is an organization in which both women and men participate equally.
“Women can stand on its own feet if she has this awareness that she does not need to depend on men to protect her or to make her emotionally strong. One needs total self-sufficiency so that one does not depend on anyone. When a woman has awareness of inner courage and company of God, she will receive protection from God because courage brings help from God. Generally, women are spiritually-inclined; hence, they are able to take support and strength from God.
Regrettably, the society has made them think that they are weak and need protection from men who are expected to be strong. But God is the Almighty and if women have His Company, no opposition can have effect and victory is assured. Therefore, women must keep in mind that having faith in the self and to God will certainly bring victory.
Any human relationship may give some support, love and comfort but as humans, we are living in a physical world, bound by limitations, thus, the quest for unlimited love, support and strength can only be experienced from God who is the Almighty, the Eternal Source of love, peace, happiness, and protection.”
